Xindi Wei
Producer | Documentary Filmmaker | Brand Storyteller
I am a documentary filmmaker and producer who crafts authentic narratives for branded content, doc-fiction, and independent film through my venture, Quiet Current Films.
My work is guided by a fundamental question: ‘Why does this story matter?’ My background in philosophy provides a unique framework for exploring deeper themes of identity, truth, and human connection. This philosophical rigour—combined with my training in journalism and an MA in Documentary Filmmaking—allows me to craft stories that are both cinematically compelling and intellectually resonant.
Beyond directing, I offer comprehensive support across the entire production workflow. My hands-on experience spans pre-production, on-set assistance, and post-production coordination with companies across London. I am known for clear communication, meticulous organisation, and a dedicated approach to supporting creative teams from concept to delivery.

"Wearable Reveries"
This branded documentary explores the dreamlike essence of the London-based jewelry brand, where timeless jewelry draws inspiration from the ocean’s mysteries and nature’s imperfect beauty. Each piece becomes a wearable reflection of art, emotion, and the quiet harmony between the human spirit and the natural world.
The most challenging aspect of making this brand documentary was capturing the perfect natural sunlight to create that dreamy, ethereal atmosphere. With ever-changing conditions and the pressure to maintain consistency, it was a constant balancing act between time and light, but it was crucial to setting the tone for the film. At the same time, thinking on the spot and being spontaneous with props and scenes added another layer of complexity, as I had to find ways to effectively convey the brand’s message in real-time, keeping the narrative both authentic and visually compelling.

WEARER SERIES - DIANA
This brand documentary for London-based fashion brand Garment-By celebrates slow fashion and sustainability through the inspiring story of Diana—a mother, lawyer, and model—who redefines aging and beauty. Single-handedly crafted from concept to completion, the film reflects my technical expertise in directing, filming, and editing, while showcasing the brand’s values of timelessness and thoughtful design to leave a lasting impact on audiences.
The most challenging part of this project was working with a stranger for the first time—earning Diana’s trust and encouraging her to share her story authentically. The voiceover added complexity, requiring clear communication and patience to balance guidance while preserving her natural voice. On a rushed shooting day, I focused on adaptability, prioritising key shots, and fostering collaboration, ensuring we captured a story that stayed true to Diana and the brand’s vision.

"HighGrove House"
Working on the Highgrove House project was one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had. Spending time with residents living with dementia reminded me how powerful human connection is — even without many words. It challenged me to slow down, listen more closely, and be present in ways I hadn’t expected. There were moments of confusion and unpredictability, but also so much warmth, humour, and clarity.
I saw firsthand how much joy, humour, and dignity can still be expressed, even in small moments. Capturing that truthfully required care, empathy, and deep respect for everyone involved. It wasn’t always easy — building trust quickly and filming in a sensitive environment took patience — but it left me with a deeper understanding of how to tell stories that honour the people at the heart of them.

Dreams on Pointe
The dance reel showcases Yu Hang's technical precision and the transformative power of ballet, reflecting her passion and dedication. Through this reel, she aspires to inspire ballet enthusiasts and be a role model for those pursuing their own artistic journeys.
The challenging part of this project was understanding ballet terminology and translating movements into a compelling story on screen. Without access to the Royal Ballet's dance studio beforehand, I had to improvise on the spot, adapting to the location, adjusting lighting, and directing movements as we filmed. Thankfully, my own experience with ballet in my free time gave me the insight and confidence to navigate these challenges and bring the vision to life.. Other challenges included the editing process, where I had to ensure the fluidity and timing of the ballet movements were captured perfectly. It was crucial to balance the choreography with the pacing of the film, making sure that the story flowed smoothly without disrupting the natural rhythm of the dance.
